Why your pediatrician should be your first call
When your child wakes up with a fever or sore throat, the fastest path to relief is often the team that already knows them. At Preferred Pediatrics in Thibodaux, our same-day sick visits are built on the records, growth charts, and medical history we've been following since your child's first visit. That continuity of care helps us evaluate symptoms quickly and accurately, often making a pediatric sick visit more convenient, more personalized, and less costly than a trip to urgent care.
What to expect at a sick visit
Our goal is to make the experience as easy and reassuring as possible for both you and your child. We begin with a thorough evaluation, checking things like temperature, breathing, ears, throat, and the abdomen. We can perform in-office testing including swabs for Strep, Flu, RSV, and COVID. Additionally, we offer urine analysis, diabetes testing with Hemoglobin A1C's, ECG's and in-office ultrasounds (by appointment).
Before you leave, you'll have a clear understanding of what's going on and what comes next. Whether your child needs medication, extra rest and comfort measures, or simply close observation, we'll walk you through the plan, explain what symptoms to watch for, and let you know when to call us or come back for a follow-up visit.
When to call us and when to go to the ER
Call us first for fever, ear pain, sore throat, cough, rash, vomiting, diarrhea, mild injuries and the long list of everyday illnesses children pick up. Go to the ER or call 911 for trouble breathing, persistent vomiting with dehydration, a stiff neck with high fever, a seizure, signs of a serious head injury or any situation that feels life-threatening.
