Well-child visits

The visits that catch the small stuff early.

Wellness visits are how we get to know your child, track development and stay ahead of anything that needs attention. They are also the visits where most of your questions get answered.

What happens at a well-child visit

A typical well-child visit includes:

  • Measurements of height, weight and head circumference for infants
  • A complete physical exam
  • Developmental and behavioral screening appropriate to your child's age
  • Vision and hearing checks at recommended ages
  • Vaccinations on the AAP schedule
  • Time for your questions about sleep, feeding, behavior, school and anything else on your mind

Most wellness visits run 30 to 45 minutes. We do not rush.

The schedule we follow

We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics schedule for wellness visits:

  • Birth
  • 3 to 5 days after birth
  • 2 weeks
  • 1 month
  • 2 months
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months
  • 15 months
  • 18 months
  • 24 months
  • 30 months
  • Annually starting at age 3

If you have missed a visit or you are new to our practice, that is fine. We will work with you to get back on schedule.

Why this schedule matters

The AAP schedule is not arbitrary. Each visit lines up with specific developmental milestones and recommended screenings. Skipping visits in the first two years is the most common way developmental concerns get missed. By age 3 and beyond, annual visits keep us connected and help us catch anything new.
